Across the Pond
Last week, I spent five days on the other side of the Atlantic. It's a magical time in all major cities this time of year, and London was no exception.
I arrived on a brisk Friday morning at London Gatwick Airport. After a quick 30 minute train ride into Victoria Station, I found P waiting for me in the central hall. We then hopped on the tube back to her place, near Bromley-by-Bow.
The following morning, we drove through the city on our way to Bicester Village for some shopping. This was our lovely view driving across the Westminster Bridge. As much as I dislike tourist attractions, I suppose they are still famous for a reason. This view of Big Ben was exceptionally beautiful to me (probably because it was from the quiet comfort of our car, without tourists bashing you with their cameras).
On Sunday, we decided to venture into Notting Hill to explore Portobello Market. I had never been to this part of town on my previous visits to London, and I must say -- it was charming. The multicoloured houses lined the simple, narrow streets, and vines crawled ravenously across walls and gates. It was like walking into a storybook.
Time always passes by so quickly when you're traveling. The weekend went by in a blur, and in the blink of an eye, it was Monday.
It was probably our most productive day yet. We decided to first visit "Winter Wonderland", the Christmas Market in Hyde Park.
What is a visit to the UK without some afternoon tea? After browsing the Christmas Market, we stopped by Caffé Concerto for some Earl Grey and scones.
Post-meal, with our bellies warm with tea and food, we walked it off by going through Bond and Oxford Streets while enjoying all the Christmas decorations.
Thanks for the adventures, London! See you next time.
