I had contemplated the move out to California for some time now, but I had no idea it would be this soon. For years, New York was my one great love affair -- something that I had dreamed about ever since I was a little girl. I dreamed of working at a magazine (check), finding love (check), and settling down (pending). I basked in the warm glow of living the life that I had seen on television, until I realized that as much as I was in love with New York, the feeling wasn't exactly mutual.

This year, I chose to do something a little bit different. I came across the Wolf Conservation Center a little while ago when researching activities in New York state. They have overnight programs every weekend during the summer months, where you not only learn about the wolves and their relationship to the environment, but you also get to camp among them for the night.

I was put in touch with a baker that I knew little about, and was asked to snap a few photographs of him in his element. So on May 2, I found myself taking the train down to the Village, and on the corner of Bleecker and Macdougal there was a small shop that boasted authentic Lebanese cuisine. Flatbreads, to be exact.
Light spilled into the store as I pulled open the door. I noticed that the walls, like their oven, were brick. It was a charming little place, filled with the aroma of spices that I didn't quite recognize, but enjoyed nonetheless. The staff greeted me with kind eyes and warm smiles, and directed me to the man I was there to photograph: Ziyed Hermez.
